Indonesia officially parts ways with Kluivert
After missing out on a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has officially announced the departure of head coach Patrick Kluivert and his entire coaching team. The decision was reached by mutual agreement, with both sides considering the team’s internal structure and long-term development plans.
According to 12BET Malaysia, Kluivert will no longer oversee Indonesia’s senior, U23, or U20 teams. The PSSI expressed gratitude to him and his staff, calling this move part of a broader strategy to rebuild and strengthen the nation’s football coaching program.
Two straight defeats end Indonesia’s World Cup dream
Indonesia’s World Cup qualifying journey ended in disappointment after suffering back-to-back defeats in the Asian fourth-round qualifiers — a 0-1 loss to Iraq and a 2-3 defeat to Saudi Arabia. Following the matches, frustrated fans called for Kluivert’s resignation, with many chanting the name of former coach Shin Tae-yong during the game.
Last November, as reported by 12BET Malaysia, the Indonesian FA replaced Shin with Kluivert in hopes of uniting local and naturalized players. Despite this bold move, the results did not meet expectations. Under Kluivert’s leadership, Indonesia won two and lost two matches in the 18-team stage, eventually failing to progress further.
PSSI expresses gratitude and sets new ambitions
FA President Erick Thohir extended his thanks to Kluivert and his staff:
“We sincerely thank Coach Kluivert for his dedication over the past 12 months. With mutual respect, we agreed to end our cooperation. Thank you for being part of Indonesia’s football journey and for fighting proudly under the red and white flag.”
Thohir also praised the efforts of fans, players, and their families who supported the national team through every stage. Reaching the fourth round of World Cup qualifiers was a historic achievement for Indonesia — a milestone that 12BET Malaysia’s analysts described as a sign of steady progress in Southeast Asian football.
